General Construction Induction Training (GCIT) Skill Set

Course duration: 7 hours including 1 hour break time (on campus face-to-face)
This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.
Upon successful completion of this skill set, you will be issued with a General Construction Induction Card and be able to safely work in the construction industry.
Who should do this course: All workers or potential workers who want to work in construction industry.
Entry requirements:
All workers or potential workers who want to work in construction industry and should be more than or equal to 18 years of age. There are no entry requirements for this course academically however students will have to buy following PPE equipments before they can start this course:
- Hard hat: Required for head protection, must meet AS/NZS 1801.
- Safety glasses: Required for eye protection, must meet AS 1337.1.
- Hearing protection: Required for hearing protection, must meet AS/NZS 1270.
- High-visibility vest: Required for visibility, must be a high-visibility garment that meets AS/NZS 4602.1.
